Well it's been a long time since I have blogged on her, but I have missed writing so here I am.
Just read an article that warns consumers that many places sell old tires as new. Apparently tire rubber starts to disintegrate after 6 years and the only way to know how old your tires are is to check the DOT number on the inner wall of the tire. At the end of the number is a four-digit sequence that shows the week and year the tire was made. Tires with the notation 3502 were made in the 35th week of 2002.
So I guess the next time I need to get new tires I will need to research the type of tire, price, and ask to see this DOT number on all 4 tires. It normally takes 4-5 years to go through tires so I would not want tires that are more than a year or two from the manufacturing date.
I guess this will be kind of a pain but better to be a difficult consumer than a dead one. A tire blowout at expressway speeds can be very dangerous.
Will have to do some more research on this subject.
